Pillars & Impact Areas
Initiatives in NTUA
Active sustainability initiatives are currently running across all NTUA campuses to enhance participation and communication. NTUA is proud to showcase the multifaceted, vibrant sustainability culture promoted in several of these most interesting initiatives.
As reflected in NTUA’s Roadmap to Energy Management and Sustainable Development, the Senate Committee for Energy Management and Sustainable Development, the Facilities Management Division and several School Laboratories systematically support sustainable building and renovation practices for NTUA infrastructure through multiple actions including green building certification and building energy efficiency certification, upgrading lighting systems, construction and demolition waste recycling, and cooperation with local suppliers.
The Senate Committee on Energy Management and Sustainability has developed key performance indicators (KPIs) for its sustainable goals and climate action plan that it intends to follow in the coming years. These KPIs are designed to provide clear, measurable targets that will guide the committee’s efforts in promoting environmental sustainability and addressing climate change. The focus areas include reducing carbon emissions, increasing the use of renewable energy sources, improving energy efficiency across all operations, and fostering sustainable practices within the community. By setting these KPIs, the committee aims to demonstrate a commitment to environmental stewardship and to encourage a broader engagement in sustainability efforts. These efforts are critical for ensuring a more sustainable future and aligning with global initiatives to combat climate change.
Pillars
To incorporate and advance sound energy management and sustainability across NTUA’s facilities, infrastructure, operations, curriculum, research and community, the Roadmap to Energy Management and Sustainable Development is organised into three main pillars of action:
- Environmental Protection
- Education & Research
- Community & Culture
Impact Areas
NTUA’s Senate Committee for Energy Management and Sustainable Development has defined five designated impact areas under each of the three main pillars of action.
